The Engagement
Identify and address blind Spots for advancement
The Client
Roger Thompson (alias) had 15 years of tech marketing experience who was viewed as a micro-manager that didn't meet expectations, who had been separated four times.
The SOW
One-on-one coaching using the proprietary J.U.M.P. framework - eight live sessions supported by online learning materials.
The Challenge
Separated from a fourth company, Roger Thompson was frustrated with and genuinely didn't understand his feedback.
A mid-career marketing director at tech company, Roger had been laid off again. The feedback he received is that he was not keeping up with his work, his communication style was off-putting, he lacked executive presence, and he was a micro-manager. Additionally, he couldn’t identify objectives and plan.
He felt his performance was excellent but lacked bandwidth to get everything done. He didn’t see himself as a micro manager, but rather someone who cared deeply about his team. Unable to find tech employment, he worked at a gym to make ends meet.
The Game Plan
Roger’s initial assessment showed he was resistant to feedback, stemming from a personal relationship. He frequently made excuses for not completing his work, including the required learning materials for coaching. The program calls for setting an achievable goal, but Mr. Thompson refused, instead choosing one that couldn’t be measured.
The first step in the J.U.M.P. framework is holding up a mirror to the client, helping them see their strengths and areas for growth. From there, we explore discomfort to uncover the reasons behind certain beliefs and actions, including his reluctance to set a goal for coaching. It became clear that self-awareness and accountability would be the key areas to focus on.
The J.U.M.P. framework is a proprietary approach that combines live sessions with science-backed techniques of high performers. Together, we methodically address internal and external roadblocks while focusing on superpowers. Roger chose the 90-day plan over the 6-month option to see faster results. The 90-day Power-Up includes eight live sessions:
1.
Welcome and goal setting.
2.
Address internal beliefs that are roadblocks.
3.
Focus on gifts and makes you unique.
4.
Examine how one conforms and the mid-point check in.
5.
Surface habits that aren't serving and create ones that do.
6.
Create a plan of action for success.
7.
Review early results and modify the plan.
8.
Setting up a daily greatness practice to stay on track.
The Outcomes
Roger had a breakthrough when he realized how his beliefs and behavior were tied to a personal relationship. He admired that person and wanted to emulate their actions, without fully grasping the impact, intentional or not. Instead of making excuses, he started focusing on accountability and finding ways to set himself up for success through better planning and stronger communication skills.

The Value Delivered
Shifting Roger's self-perception to transform into the leader that others want to follow.
By the end of the program, Roger had a clear understanding of how his actions shaped his situation. He built a self-awareness habit that encouraged accountability and strengthened his connections with others. He learned to prioritize tasks and create systems to tackle important work. Most importantly, he became aware of how others saw him and stopped resisting feedback. And he landed a new leadership role within three months.
